Jeremiah’s entry into Mentoring CHEC was unconventional. Driven by curiosity, he wandered into a gathering he wasn’t formally invited to. This unplanned moment marked the start of a transformative chapter in his life. Despite his autism and preference for solitude, Jeremiah’s decision to “crash the party” set the stage for incredible growth and self-discovery. 

At Mentoring CHEC, Jeremiah found a family. The supportive environment and dedicated mentors provided a safe space for him to explore his capabilities. Initially skeptical about college, the program’s holistic approach gradually helped him see new possibilities. 

Jeremiah’s ambition to become president, a dream he voiced frequently, propelled him to take on leadership roles. He became president of his senior class and the entire school. However, he eventually lost his presidency due to difficulties in building consensus, compromising, and professional conduct. This setback taught him invaluable lessons in leadership and collaboration.

Mentoring CHEC opened Jeremiah’s eyes to new opportunities. While initially dismissive of college, mentorship helped him understand its value. He began considering college before pursuing his goal of joining the military, highlighting the impact of a supportive environment on aspirations.
