Celebrating Cohort I
The Class That Started It All!
In the second full year of program implementation, Mentoring CHEC successfully graduated its inaugural cohort of 32 mentees, with outstanding outcomes.
- Of these graduates, 29 (91%) will be attending some of the most prestigious universities and colleges in the nation on near full-ride scholarships.
- The graduates collectively maintained an average GPA of 3.44 in their senior year, up from 2.975 as juniors.
- Twenty-one graduates remained in the program for two years, and collectively earned over $3.2 million in financial aid.
- One of the graduates joined the U.S. Army and another graduate enrolled in an early childhood associates program.
- One member of the inaugural cohort moved to Atlanta, GA.
Impact: Luis and Marcus
Of all the mentor and mentee matches, perhaps no other pairing proved as successful and as endearing as the bond between Luis and Marcus. Together, they earned the mentor mentee of the year award, had perfect attendance and celebrated Luis being accepted to Villanova University of student Forensic Science.
