Distinctive
What truly sets us apart is our alignment with the vision and work of CHEC. Supported by none other than the Principal and her team of administrators, the initiative receives robust backing in recruiting mentees. While functioning independently as a grant funded program under MCIP, “Mentoring CHEC” operates as an extended arm of the school, creating new relationships and focused opportunities for a select group of students who need the help the most.

Other distinctions
- One of the key strengths of MCIP's partnership with CHEC is the elimination of service duplication. By working closely together, MCIP and CHEC ensure that their efforts are complementary and strategically aligned. This means that resources are used efficiently, and students receive targeted support without overlap. The shared mission and coordinated efforts result in a seamless support system that addresses all aspects of student development
Only at Mentoring CHEC

CHEC alumni, faculty and staff
CHEC alumni periodically serve as panelists and guest speakers, sharing their experiences and insights to inspire current students. Teachers and counselors are routinely part of the planning conversation, ensuring that our programs are well-integrated and effective.

Parental Engagement
We collaborate closely with the school’s parental involvement program, actively encouraging parent engagement throughout our programming. This ensures a supportive community and reinforces the student’s development both at school and at home.

Wraparound Services
Mentoring CHEC benefits from MCIP’s plethora of year-round wraparound services. These services include high-impact tutoring, homework assistance, and trauma-informed care, all of which support our mentoring program and help students thrive both academically and personally. Our mentoring goals are always in complete alignment with the school’s academic objectives, ensuring a seamless integration of efforts.

Bell College Scholarship Fund
A distinctive feature of Mentoring CHEC is access to the Bell College Scholarship Fund, making us the only mentoring program in the District that also raises last-dollar college scholarship support for CHEC students. Mentees in good standing can apply for this fund, with upwards of $140,000 raised annually. This substantial financial support bridges the gap, ensuring our students have the necessary resources to achieve their college dreams and reflecting our deep commitment to their academic success and future potential.
